Stage 2: Brough to Dunnet Beach

Distance: 9 miles | 14.5 kilometers

This route is the pinnacle of coastal walking: Starting off on dramatic cliff tops, making your way to the most northerly point in the UK (don’t let them tell you in John o’Groats!), Dunnet Head, marked with the iconic lighthouse designed by renowned Robert Stevenson, before descending down towards glorious golden sands.

The route offers spectacular views over to the Orkney Islands (most notably Hoy) and the coastline of Caithness and into Sutherland. This already reasonably well walked area will ultimately make up Stage 2 of the North Coast Trail with most of Dunnet head having been way marked.
